Officer’s act earns public praise

November 21, 2014

A simple spontaneous act by Police Constable Ivan Yam while on duty in Mong Kok’s occupied area has attracted much praise on the Internet.

The West Kowloon Emergency Unit officer has been nick-named “Police Force Hero” by social network users after footage was posted online showing him handing a bottle of water to a protester.

Constable Yam said he is pleased he contributed to the relieving of tension between Police and the occupiers in recent weeks.

Although a policeman with a duty to serve, he said he is also an ordinary citizen who wishes to see people respectful and tolerant of each other.
