The proprietor of a dried seafood shop was fined $25,000 by Kowloon City Magistracy today for misleading customers.
An undercover Customs officer tried to buy a catty of dried oysters at the shop in January.
On the placard displayed, the words describing the unit were small and it misled customers into believing the price of the goods was measured in catties.
The shopkeepers intentionally avoided providing the price unit of the dried oysters when asked, and the goods supplied were short of the purported one catty.
Officers found two other misleading placards in the shop.
The proprietor admitted breaching the Trade Descriptions Ordinance and the Weights & Measures Ordinance.
