Protesters urged to follow court order

October 28, 2014

Police have urged protesters to comply with the court injunction over the illegal occupation of roads in Mong Kok and the blockage of access at CITIC Tower.

Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui said at a press conference today the Court of First Instance has extended the order, adding that the continued illegal road occupation is a deliberate contravention of the law.

He said the barriers occupiers are using to block roads are government property, and the blockades put people at risk as emergency vehicles cannot get through.

"Police will take actions as necessary against anyone who interferes with those authorised in the due execution of the injunction order. Police are duty bound to preserve public peace and to maintain law and order. We are committed in taking resolute actions against anyone using violence."

Mr Hui said Police have arrested a 50-year-old man, the third suspect so far apprehended over the violent incident in Tsim Sha Tsui at the weekend. More arrests are possible.

He called on people to stay calm during public events, adding that they should neither provoke others nor be incited by others to breach the peace.
