Customs officers arrested a 54-year-old newspaper stall operator today after seizing about 500,000 illicit cigarettes worth about $1.25 million, with a duty potential of $960,000 from his stall and a nearby storeroom in Kwun Tong.

Acting on a tip-off, officers monitored the stall operator and found that he was involved in supplying illicit cigarettes to customers he knew in Kwun Tong, and had stored the cigarettes in an industrial warehouse nearby.
