Police warn against online protest call

October 22, 2014

The Police today strongly condemned online messages inciting people to occupy the airport, which it stressed is illegal.

Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui told a press briefing today that anyone who disrupts public order at the airport commits an offence under the Public Order Ordinance and the Airport Authority Bylaw.

He reiterated that the majority of Hong Kong's laws are applicable in the cyber world and that officers will continue gathering evidence and investigating the messages.

Once sufficient evidence has been collected, the Police will make arrests if necessary, Mr Hui added.

In a related development, Police arrested a 20-year-old man today for criminally intimidating an officer's daughter online.

Noting that there are adults still bringing children and even babies to the unlawful assembly in Mong Kok, Mr Hui said Police strongly condemned such acts, calling it extremely irresponsible and dangerous.
