No tolerance for road blockages

October 17, 2014

Police officers this morning removed illegal obstacles in Mong Kok and will not tolerate further blockage of reopened roads.

Speaking at a press conference, Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui said officers noticed there were calls on the Internet to reclaim Mong Kok with force.

He said Police will take resolute action should any acts of violence arise.

He condemned "flash mob" protesters who suddenly dash onto roads, adding that such reckless acts pose a serious safety threat.

Up to this morning, 38 officers have been injured in various confrontations arising from the illegal occupation of roads.

Mr Hui said the difficulty and complexity of the Police operation in recent weeks is unprecedented, yet officers have remained professional, restrained and committed.
