Police urge roadblock clearance

October 11, 2014

Police Public Relations Branch Chief Superintendent Steve Hui urged protesters to remove obstacles at Queensway so that tram services can resume.

During a press conference today, Mr Hui said the tram services suspension between the Eastern and Western districts on Hong Kong Island greatly affects many people, including senior citizens and those with disabilities.

He noted that the protesters are occupying many areas illegally, and the obstruction of Queensway traffic is unreasonable and goes against their claim of a peaceful demonstration.

Mr Hui added that there are groups who have expressed their intention to remove obstacles in various districts and he called for those involved to remain calm.

He also urged people to leave areas where conflict is likely to occur, adding that the force is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to take necessary and appropriate action.
