Open fire case investigated

Police are investigating a case in which a police officer sustained a gunshot wound, while two other officers and a healthcare worker were also injured at North District Hospital today.

 

At about 11am, Police received a report that a man was injured on San Wan Road, Sheung Shui. The man, who had an injury to his left wrist, was sent to North District Hospital.

 

Police arrested him for illegal immigration after they found he had no identity document.

 

The man became emotional and attempted to snatch a revolver from a police constable. The officer struggled with the man, during which the revolver was fired with six gunshots heard.

 

The man was arrested for illegal immigration, assaulting a police officer and wounding. He was admitted to Castle Peak Hospital.

 

The police constable had a gunshot wound to his right forearm, and was admitted to hospital in stable condition. The other three people were discharged after medical treatment.
