Herbalist convicted for fraud

September 11, 2014

A Chinese herb salesman was today sentenced to four months' jail, suspended for two years, and fined $20,000 for misleading customers.

Undercover Customs officers bought ginseng at his dispensary in January.

The salesmen repeatedly avoided giving the unit price of the goods, and misled shoppers into believing the unit price was in catties instead of taels, resulting in a price 16 times what consumers would expect.

He was convicted at Kwun Tong Magistracy.
