Correctional recruitment drive to start

July 17, 2014

An exercise to recruit 240 Correctional Services Department officers will start tomorrow.

They will help inmates rehabilitate, and seek public support for the rehabilitated.

Principal of the department’s Staff Training Institute Lee Kwok-po said he is looking for candidates who have faith in their beliefs and show perseverance, and can motivate inmates to face difficulties positively and change their life values.

Recruitment involves a fitness test, a group interview, an aptitude test, the Basic Law test and a final interview.

Mr Lee advised applicants to ensure they are fit, as only about 50% of candidates pass the fitness test. Videos demonstrating the fitness level required are available on the department’s website.

Candidates should also monitor current affairs, and have good communication and analytical skills, he added.

Recruits will undergo 23 weeks of residential training at the institute, covering law, academic subjects, scenario training, foot drills, fitness, self-defence, weapons, first aid, and helicopter and emergency response training.

Details on the recruitment will be available on the department’s website tomorrow.
