Fruit fraud

Fruit fraud:  Customs officers have seized 5,200 illicit oranges.

4 arrested for pirate fruit

April 24, 2014

Customs officers have arrested two men and two women in Yuen Long for selling counterfeit oranges.

Officers raided two fruit stalls yesterday and found 5,200 oranges and 112,000 forged labels, worth about $90,000 in total.

The shop owner and three sales staff were arrested. They are believed to have been putting counterfeit labels on cheaper oranges.

The genuine oranges would have had a plastic label with two barcodes, however, the fakes had a paper label with one barcode.
