Judicial officers' pay to rise 4.22%

Judges' and judicial officers' pay for 2011-12 will increase 4.22 %, dated back from April 1, the Chief Executive in Council has decided.
 
The decision was made after considering the recommendation of the Standing Committee on Judicial Salaries & Conditions of Service.
 
The committee took into account the principle of judicial independence and the position of the Judiciary, the judges' workload, and recruitment and retention in the Judiciary.
 
The Judicial Committee recommended the pay increase to the Chief Executive on June 30.
 
The government will seek the Legislative Council Finance Committee’s approval of the proposed pay adjustment.
