The Civil Engineering & Development Department's Geotechnical Engineering Office has received an award for its promotion of occupational health.

It won the Safety Performance Award at the 16th Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health Award presentation ceremony today for its achievements in promoting workplace safety when providing emergency landslide inspection services.

The office has been running a 24-hour emergency service since the early 1980s to protect the public from landslide hazards.

The service provides geotechnical engineering advice to government departments to minimise landslide danger, and helps the Government promptly restore public services suspended by landslides.

The Government receives about 300 landslide reports each year.

With a well-established management structure, clear safety rules, equipment and staff training, the office maintains a zero-accident record in its service provision.

It has deployed drones in recent years to further minimise the risks faced by staff.
