HK sees record flights

August 25, 2017

The Civil Aviation Department handled 2,341 flights yesterday, setting a new single-day record.

It said the backlog of flights caused by Typhoon Hato was cleared in a safe and orderly manner.

Director-General of Civil Aviation Simon Li thanked the department's staff for their dedication to work during the storm.

The record included 1,318 flight movements at Hong Kong International Airport and 1,023 overflights that used air traffic control services.

Mr Li said there was a significant increase in the number of flights handled by the department during the summer holiday.

From July 1 to yesterday the department handled 2,100 daily flights on average, up 7% on the same period last year.

The Airport Authority said the number of daily passengers handled yesterday also reached a record high of 234,238.
