Talent training:  Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan (front centre) signs a deal with the University of Hong Kong and Shanghai Maritime University to inaugurate a maritime talent training scheme.

The Government has signed a deal with the University of Hong Kong and Shanghai Maritime University to inaugurate a maritime talent training scheme.

 

The deal was signed by Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan today.

 

Mr Chan said the University of Hong Kong - Shanghai Maritime University Academic Collaboration Scheme will promote the sustainable development of the maritime industry.

 

Sponsored by the Maritime & Aviation Training Fund of the Transport & Housing Bureau, the scheme will start in the new academic year.

 

Selected graduates of Shanghai Maritime University School of Law will be awarded scholarships to study the one-year Master of Common Law programme at HKU.

 

They must work in Hong Kong's maritime industry for at least a year upon completion of the programme.

 

At the same occasion, Mr Chan also witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Hong Kong Shipowners Association and the Shanghai International Shipping Institute to establish the Shanghai-Hong Kong International Maritime Research Centre.
