August 14, 2017

Steven Ngai has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Urban Renewal Fund until August, 2020, the Development Bureau announced today.

Six new directors - Ching May-bo, Rebecca Chiu, Dennis Ho, Ivan Fu, Yeung Ming-tai and Ricky Yu - will also join.

Seven incumbent directors - Au King-lun, Wilson Fung, Serena Lau, Lilian Law, Albert Lee, Lawrence Poon and Adrian Wong - have been reappointed.

They will serve until August 15, 2020.

Wai Chi-sing has been reappointed director on an ad personam basis until June 14, 2019.

Secretary for Development Michael Wong said Mr Ngai is an expert in the field of social services, adding he is confident Mr Ngai will lead the fund in furthering its objectives.

Mr Wong also thanked outgoing Chairman Joe Leung and directors Andrew Chan, Bosco Fung, Patrick Fung, Philip Kan, Edward Leung and Philip Tsai for their service.

The fund, with $500 million endowment from the Urban Renewal Authority, provides independent funding to social service teams that assist owners and tenants affected by the authority’s redevelopment projects.

It also supports the planning and related studies proposed by District Urban Renewal Fora as well as heritage preservation and district revitalisation initiatives proposed by non-government organisations and other stakeholders in relation to urban renewal.

The fund was a major initiative under the Government’s Urban Renewal Strategy promulgated in 2011.
