Disaster prevention:  Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) Hon Chi-keung opens the Thematic Exhibition on the 40th Anniversary of Hong Kong Slope Safety System.

Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) Hon Chi-keung opened an exhibition on Hong Kong's slope safety system today.

The Thematic Exhibition on the 40th Anniversary of Hong Kong Slope Safety System introduces the slope maintenance measures adopted by the Geotechnical Engineering Office of the Civil Engineering & Development Department.

The show also features a virtual reality zone for visitors to experience landslides.

Mr Hon said the Government will continue to allocate resources for landslide risk management.

Deputy Director of Civil Engineering & Development Norman Heung said large-scale landslides are very rare in the city due to the Government's preventive measures.

However, he said extreme weather, population growth and slope ageing can still trigger landslides, adding the public should take precautionary measures.

Held at PMQ in Central, the expo will run until July 17.
