Bridge safety checks satisfactory

(July 07, 2017)

Examinations of the concrete compressive strength at 3,000 stress-critical locations of the structures under the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge’s Hong Kong projects and the Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link project have been completed, yielding results that meet safety standards.

This is according to the updated investigations conducted by the Highways Department in connection with the alleged falsification of concrete cube test reports by a laboratory outsourced by the Civil Engineering & Development Department.

Noting that all tests on the Hong Kong projects relating to the bridge will be completed before the end of October, the Highways Department said it will ensure the structures of these projects are adequately examined to confirm compliance with design and safety requirements before it is commissioned.
