Plumbing works to be inspected

March 20, 2017

The Water Supplies Department will launch a pilot scheme for random checks on new plumbing works under construction.

Running from April 1, the one-year scheme aims to tighten oversight of plumbing works, and enhance the safety of drinking water.

The department will shortlist a number of plumbing projects under construction bimonthly. Selection will be based on the projects' risk elements. Risk assessment criteria include the projects' scale and nature, licensed plumbers’ background, plumbing contractors' qualifications and the plumbing materials used.

The scheme covers new fresh water plumbing works in residential estates and buildings serving sensitive users such as hospitals, clinics, elderly homes and schools.

The department will review the scheme nine months after its implementation.
