The spectrum handover among mobile network operators arising from the reassignment of 3G spectrum was completed last night.
The Communications Authority, after two rounds of public consultation, decided in 2013 to offer, for the new term of assignment with effect from today, the right of first refusal to 69.2MHz of the 3G spectrum to the three incumbent assignees - Hong Kong Telecommunications, Hutchison Telephone and SmarTone Mobile Communications.
The remaining 49.2MHz of the spectrum was reassigned through auction to HTCL, SmarTone and China Mobile Hong Kong.
The spectrum reassignment has fetched for the public coffers a spectrum utilisation fee of $6.9884 billion.
The new term of assignment lasts until 2031.
