Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung inspected Ho Man Tin MTR Station today, part of the Kwun Tong Line Extension.
He told the media he is glad to know the line will be ready for service in October.
It will cut travel time between Yau Ma Tei and Whampoa from 20 minutes to five, and will reduce road congestion.
Ho Man Tin Station comprises eight floors, making it the largest interchange on the MTR network.
He said the MTR Corporation is also working to have the South Island Line (East) running by year's-end, which will greatly alleviate traffic congestion in Southern District and boost tourism.
