Reclaimed land monitored

April 29, 2016

Reclaimed land is secure at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge's boundary crossing facilities, Director of Highways Lau Ka-keung says.

Speaking at a press conference today, Mr Lau said reclaimed land movement is normal in large-scale reclamation projects using the "non-dredge" method.

He noted that movement of up to seven metres was recorded at the project's artificial island, refuting media reports stating that it had moved as much as 10 metres.

Mr Lau added that the department will hire an independent expert to assess the movement situation.

Meanwhile, it will continue to supervise the contractors closely to ensure the reclamation work is conducted safely and that the final land formation is stable for the safe construction of boundary crossing facilities.

Efforts have also been made to co-ordinate connecting projects to avoid delays in their progress.
