Flight movements hit new record

February 08, 2016

A total of 1,227 flight movements were handled at the airport on February 6 setting a new daily record, the Civil Aviation Department says.

The flight movements broke the previous single-day record of 1,210 set on April 3 last year and exceeded the daily average of 1,117 movements recorded last year by 10%.

February 6 saw 874 flights operate through the Hong Kong region, bringing the total handled by the department to 2,101 during the 24-hour period.

The increase in flight movements was attributed to high demand during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Extra flights were run to Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Indonesia. Bali was the most popular destination followed by Taipei and Seoul.
