The completion date of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge’s Hong Kong section may be extended by a year, to the end of 2017, according to a preliminary forecast from the Highways Department.
Responding to media enquiries in a statement yesterday, the department said the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities and the Hong Kong Link Road projects may not be completed by the end of 2016 as targetted.
It said the delay is due to construction difficulties and challenges including an unstable material supply, labour shortage, airport height restrictions, environmental protection requirement constraints, and other complications concerning the reclamation works.
The three governments' joint works committee completed and discussed a preliminary assessment in September 2015, which required all sides to refine their programme assessment with an in-depth and objective analysis of construction difficulties and risks, with safety and quality assurance as an overriding consideration.
