More minibus seats mooted

May 26, 2015

The Transport Advisory Committee has supported a plan for the Government to study increasing the seating capacity of minibuses.

The committee was briefed today on the Government's preliminary assessment of the proposal tabled by the minibus trade.

Committee Chairman Larry Kwok noted differing views on the proposal, so further study is needed under the Role & Positioning Review of the Public Transport Strategy Study.

"The issue would need to be considered in the context of the roles and positioning of other road-based public transport services, in order to ensure their complementarity, while affording passengers reasonable modal choices."

The entire review is scheduled start in the middle of this year and will be completed in about two years.
