Airspace plans will be explained

(March 21, 2015)

Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung has said that he understands public concern about building a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport, and that he will try his best to allay those concerns and explain the relevant airspace plan as appropriate.

Speaking to reporters today, Prof Cheung explained why the Government could not disclose details of the Pearl River Delta Region Air Traffic Management Planning & Implementation Plan.

He noted that the 90-page document contains a lot of commercial and strategic sensitivities and it was not right for the Government to disclose it.

Prof Cheung acknowledged some people’s concerns about whether the plan was detailed enough, but he would try to allay concerns about whether the plan is committing different civil aviation authorities to implementation.
