HOS plan benefits 2,161 buyers

December 17, 2014

As at the third quarter of this year, a total of 2,161 applicants have achieved home ownership through the Interim Scheme to Extend the HOS Secondary Market to White Form Buyers.

Secretary for Transport & Housing Prof Anthony Cheung told legislators today 218 of the successful buyers were one-person applicants, while the remainder were families.

The scheme was implemented last year to allow eligible applicants to purchase flats without premium paid in the HOS Secondary Market.

From August 2012 to June 2014, the cumulative increase in flat prices recorded in the HOS Secondary Market is higher than that of small and medium-sized flats in the private property market, Prof Cheung said.

However, flat prices are subject to the influence of factors like the economy, demand and supply, and expectations, and the figure should be interpreted with care, he said.

Another round of the scheme with a 2,500 quota will launch in the second half of next year to meet the strong demand for subsidised-sale flats. A comprehensive review of the scheme will also be conducted.
