The new Trade & Industry Tower in Kai Tak, which is under construction, has been presented with the Grand Award of the Green Building Award (2014) in the sub-category of "Buildings Under Construction - New Buildings" and a Platinum rating in the BEAM Plus Provisional Assessment.

The Green Building Award jury highly commended the tower's strong emphasis on energy conservation and greening.

The TI Tower has applied a range of renewable energy technologies including a photovoltaic system and various energy saving devices such as a solar hot water system, solar chimney and daylight suntubes. The landscaped areas on the ground floor and the vertical greening on the external facade will improve the cityscape of the neighbouring development area.

The BEAM Plus Platinum Project Certification Ceremony was held today.

The Government said that the TI Tower's design is in line with the concept of a "Green City" in the Kai Tak Development Area. The tower's air conditioning system will be connected to the area's District Cooling System.

The TI Tower, which is expected to come into operation in 2015, is being built at the northern part of the former airport apron in the Kai Tak development.

It includes a government offices building, which will accommodate 10 government departments including the Trade & Industry Department, the Highways Department and the Census & Statistics Department, as well as a community hall.
