The China Maritime Arbitration Commission has set up an arbitration centre in Hong Kong and held its inauguration ceremony today.

Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Vice Chairman Lu Pengqi, and China Maritime Arbitration Commission Vice Chairman Yu Jianlong attended the event.

The centre and the Department of Justice, the International Arbitration Centre and the Trade Development Council held a seminar before the inauguration to describe the latest trends in international maritime arbitration.

Delivering an opening speech at the seminar, Mr Yuen said that as an international maritime centre and a regional hub for international legal and dispute resolution services in the Asia-Pacific region, Hong Kong could provide a wide range of legal and dispute resolution services to maritime service providers and users.

Hong Kong will continue to capitalise on its geographical and institutional advantages and develop high value-added maritime services, he added.
