Transport experts back rail plan

October 28, 2014

The Transport Advisory Committee has expressed support for the Railway Development Strategy 2014.

Committee members were briefed on the strategy by the Government today.

Seven new railways may be implemented by 2026, depending on demand, cost-effectiveness and development needs.

Committee Chairman Larry Kwok said members welcomed the Government’s plan to expand the railway network and continue to use railways as the backbone of the city's passenger transport system.

"We trust that the recommended schemes, if taken forward, will help achieve Hong Kong's long-term planning, development, transport and environmental objectives," he added.
