Tram services seriously affected

October 22, 2014

Tram services are only being operated in sections due to the Occupy Central protests.

The Transport Department said today trams in the eastern part of Hong Kong Island are unable to return to the Whitty Street depot in Western District for inspection and maintenance.

As only limited inspection can be conducted on trams at the Sai Wan Ho depot, tram operations and services are seriously affected.

The department urged protesters to leave illegally occupied roads peacefully to avoid affecting tram services and other public transport, and to allow the overall traffic situation to return to normal.

For the convenience of passengers, a free circular tram route is now available between Victoria Park and Paterson Street.

The department said 225 bus routes are still being affected, with eight routes suspended and 217 diverted. Twenty green minibus routes remain diverted or suspended.
