Sub-groups set for Lantau development

July 19, 2014

The Lantau Development Advisory Committee will set up four subcommittees to handle Lantau development proposals before the end of August.

The committee held its third meeting today to endorse the strategic positioning and development direction for Lantau.

Secretary for Development and Committee Chairman Paul Chan said, as strategic developments require detailed planning and studies, and public consultation before implementation, the Government will study short and medium term proposals, such as harnessing the natural and cultural resources of the country parks and rural areas for sustainable recreation and tourism, and enhancing the transport and social services for the community.

The four subcommittees will handle proposals on different aspects of Lantau’s development such as land use planning and conservation; local community economy; traffic and transport services; and public engagement.
