The Government has welcomed a recommendation that the Mass Transit Railway Corporation’s board should form a committee to oversee future large-scale projects and make quarterly progress reports.
The recommendation was made in a report released today by the Independent Board Committee formed by the MTRC to investigate the delay of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link project.
It also suggested the MTRC board review with the Executive Committee the format and content of future project reporting to the board and the Audit Committee to ensure that both are presented with clear and comprehensive information regarding the projects underway.
The Government welcomed the recommendations and hopes the MTRC takes follow-up actions to provide it with updated information and a full assessment of the progress of the railway projects under construction in a timely manner in future.
It agreed the board should strengthen the mechanism of monitoring major works projects and railway services.
The Government also noted the early departure of the company’s Chief Executive Officer Jay Walder from August 16.
