10% rise in Easter travellers forecast

April 14, 2014

About 4.95 million passengers will pass through Hong Kong's sea, land and air immigration points during the April 17 to 21 Easter holiday, up 9.7% on last year.

The Immigration Department forecasts that 3.65 million passengers will pass through land boundary control points.

It said the number of outbound passengers by land will peak on April 18 with about 476,000 people departing Hong Kong, while inbound traffic will be heaviest on April 20 with about 433,000 arrivals.

About 1.61 million passengers will travel via Lo Wu Control Point, making it the busiest entry point, with a daily average of 322,000 passengers.

Passenger traffic at the Lok Ma Chau, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line and Shenzhen Bay control points will also be heavy, with daily average forecasts of 89,000, 175,000 and 108,000 passengers.

To avoid congestion and long waits for immigration clearance, the department advises cross-boundary travellers to plan their trips in advance, avoid making journeys during busy periods, and follow radio and television announcements on control point conditions.

Estimated waiting times at all land boundary control points are also available on the department's free mobile app available here.

Hong Kong residents who require assistance while travelling outside Hong Kong can call the department on (852) 1868.
