Views sought on Kai Tak design contest

June 20, 2013
A two-month public engagement is set to gauge views on the upcoming Kai Tak Fantasy - International Ideas Competition on Urban Planning & Design.

The Development Bureau's Energising Kowloon East Office’s head Raymond Lee told reporters today opinions on the competition's urban planning and design requirements are welcomed.

The office will hold a public consultation meeting on July 27, and views can be sent via email by August 19.

The Chief Executive proposed in his 2013 Policy Address to create a recreational landmark at the site of the former airport runway tip.

Mr Lee said the area would become an 'edutainment' destination reflecting Kai Tak’s unique aviation, maritime and transportation history.

Based on the Kai Tak Development approved outline zoning plan, the office will launch the competition by the end of this year, inviting planners, architects, engineers, landscape architects, surveyors and professionals from across the world to participate.

Results will be announced at the end of 2014. Details are available at the office's website.
