MTR fare concessions planned

The MTR Corporation is working on fare concessions and reward proposals, with a view to making an announcement by the end of this month.Secretary for Transport & Housing Eva Cheng made the statement today in response to legislators' questions on the rise in commuting expenses.
Ms Cheng said the Government has discussed with the MTRC how to deal with this year's fare adjustment in an appropriate manner, adding it keeps urging the corporation to reward the additional revenue arising from the fare adjustment to passengers through various means, to substantively address the needs of various groups of passengers.
She said the Government understands the public is concerned about rising transport expenses, especially the relatively high inflation rate at the moment, which has resulted in a heavy financial burden on the community.
