May 16, 2012
Secretary for Development Carrie Lam has welcomed the Heung Yee Kuk's plan to encourage villagers to register with the Government's reporting scheme on unauthorised building works. She called for co-operation to ensure enforcement action on unauthorised building works in New Territories Exempted Houses will be taken forward as planned.
Mrs Lam told the media today the Government has adhered strictly to the policy implemented on April 1. The enforcement work has gained broad-based community support.
The reporting scheme was designed for villagers to come forward and report unauthorised works.
Mrs Lam said the letter she sent to the Heung Yee Kuk on May 9 was to clarify misunderstandings about the enforcement work.
"As long as the Government is acting in accordance with the law and in a fair and equitable manner, we are not going to be deterred by threats or protest actions. We will do whatever is right for Hong Kong."
