Commuter survey to be held

August 25, 2011
The Transport Department will conduct the Travel Characteristics Survey from September to January. About 50,000 households will be randomly selected for interviews by survey officers.

Assistant Commissioner for Transport (Planning) Anthony Loo said the survey will collect data on commuter patterns and behaviour, which will help the Government better plan future transport infrastructure, and improve public transport services.

“The travel patterns of Hong Kong people have changed significantly in recent years as a result of many factors, such as growth in the economy and population, new land use developments, an increase in cross-boundary traffic movements, changes in commercial activities, and completion of new transport infrastructure projects. We hope to ascertain these changes through the survey,” he said.

Selected households will receive notification letters in batches, inviting their participation. Survey officers will visit the selected households within four weeks from the date of issue.

Households can call 3900 1100 to make interview appointments or enquiries, or verify the identity of survey officers, who will wear a uniform and carry photo identification issued by the department.

Interviews will take about 30 minutes. Click here for details.
