The Centre for Food Safety announced today a Taiwan hairy crab sample has been found to contain excessive dioxins.
The sample was taken from an aquaculture farm in Taoyuan City, Taiwan.
Its dioxin and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) level was at 9.86 picograms toxic equivalent per gram of the food sample, which exceeded the centre’s limits of 6.5.
The centre has ordered a suspension of imports and sales of hairy crabs raised in the aquaculture farm concerned.
Two batches of hairy crabs from the farm were imported by two local importers but they will be surrendered to the centre for disposal.
