Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah watched Hong Kong athletes compete in the wushu (taolu) and fencing competitions at the 13th National Games in Tianjin today.

Noting the Hong Kong squad is competing against some of the country's best athletes, Mr Lau said the games will help squad members prepare for next year's Asian Games.

Hong Kong has sent 254 athletes to compete in 22 final competitions at the National Games, which runs until September 8.

Today Mr Lau also visited the Tianjin Cultural Centre and the Tianjin Yangliuqing Wood-block New Year Pictures Museum.

He will watch the equestrian competition at the games tomorrow before returning to Hong Kong.
