Ovitrap index rises

May 23, 2017

The monthly ovitrap index for April rose to 1.8% from 0.1% in March.

The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department said that among the 52 areas surveyed last month, positive ovitrap indices were recorded in 23 of them, ranging from 1.6% to 13.3%, with the highest in Kwun Tong Central.

The department has activated an inter-departmental anti-mosquito response mechanism in those areas.

The second phase of the citywide campaign for 10 weeks was launched on April 24. Mosquito prevention and control work is being enhanced.

For port areas, the monthly ovitrap index for April rose to 0.5% from zero in March.

The ovitrap indices reflect the prevalence of Aedes albopictus a mosquito vector for Dengue fever and Zika virus transmission.
