Selfless service:  Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah (centre) officiates at the 2016 Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony.

The Social Welfare Department held the 2016 Hong Kong Volunteer Award Presentation Ceremony today to commend more than 1,000 people for contributing to and promoting volunteer services.

 

Secretary for Home Affairs Lau Kong-wah, Director of Social Welfare Carol Yip, and the Chief Executive’s wife and Volunteer-in-Chief Regina Leung officiated at the ceremony.

 

Awards were presented to volunteers for their outstanding contribution in the last year, including 93 who served the community for more than 20 years and volunteer organisations with the highest number of service hours.

 

Since the launch of the Volunteer Movement more than 2,900 participating organisations and over 1.27 million registered volunteers have committed themselves to volunteer service.
