Dioxin found in another crab

November 16, 2016

One out of six hairy crab samples tested by the Centre for Food Safety has been found to contain excessive dioxins.

The centre’s Controller Dr Gloria Tam today briefed reporters on the latest test result, in which half the samples were taken at the import level and the rest at the retail level.

The offending sample was collected from retailer Shing Lung Hong who claimed it originated from an approved Mainland aquaculture farm.

After initial investigation, however, the centre suspected the sample came from Taihu where the import of hairy crabs to Hong Kong has been suspended.

The centre is investigating the case and following up the matter with the retailer.
