Care home licence may be revoked

October 20, 2016

The Social Welfare Department today informed the operator of a private residential care home for disabled that it intends to revoke its Certificate of Exemption.

It said the home did not fully meet the requirements specified by the department, such as the code of practice on its management and operation, and the department made the decision after legal advice.

The Bridge of Rehabilitation Company can submit written representations within one week for the department to consider.

The home is in Wo Tong Tsui Street, Kwai Chung. The Certificate of Exemption will expire in March.

The department said it will ensure proper residential arrangements for its 79 residents.

It has set up a help desk at the home for residents’ family members to enquire about care arrangements.

The Certificate of Exemption was granted for homes which existed before the licensing system was implemented in 2013, to allow time for them to carry out improvement works to meet the new licensing requirements and standards.
