Singapore Zika case monitored

August 27, 2016

The Centre for Health Protection is monitoring the first local case of Zika virus infection in Singapore and has urged the public to adopt strict anti-mosquito measures during travel.

According to Singapore’s Health Ministry, the case involves a 47-year-old Malaysian woman who had no recent travel to affected areas and was likely to have been infected in Singapore.

The centre is liaising with the World Health Organisation, and overseas, neighbouring and Mainland health authorities.

Meanwhile, Acting Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan said surveillance will continue on the discharged Hong Kong patient earlier infected with the Zika virus.

"Even after the patient has been discharged we will continue our medical surveillance to monitor the patient and her family members who went to the same place where this patient was on holiday.

"We will continue medical surveillance and if necessary, we will continue to have blood taking."
