The Government has been informed that Mainland enterprises have finished preparation for supplying day-old chicks to Hong Kong, the Food & Health Bureau said today.
With the supply of day-old chicks from the Mainland, local poultry farms can purchase day-old chicks from the Mainland farms as in the past for rearing.
Live poultry trading, including local and Mainland live poultry and day-old chicks, was suspended after a sample of live poultry from a local stall tested positive for the H7N9 avian influenza virus on June 5.
The supply of Mainland day-old chicks will help maintain a stable supply of live chickens in Hong Kong, the bureau added.
All retail outlets resumed live poultry supply on June 9, except the affected stall and its neighbouring stall.
