Young talent:  Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung speaks at the Most Improved Trainees of Youth Employment & Training Programme award ceremony.

Ten outstanding participants in the Labour Department’s Youth Employment & Training Programme have been commended for achieving significant improvements in personal development, leadership or work performance during their training period.

Speaking at the scheme's award ceremony today, Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung said the programme helped more than 210,000 school leavers with the successful placement rate reaching 70%.

He encouraged young people to participate in the programme to unleash their full potential and equip themselves for the labour market.

New employment activities launched this year include the Aviation Recruitment Series, the MTR Junior Tradesman Associate Training Project, the Horticulture & Arboriculture Trainee Training Project, and the Patient Care Assistant Training Project.

Mr Cheung called on employers to continue to support the programme, and collaborate with the Government in improving young people's prospects and providing more vacancies.

The programme is open to young school leavers aged 15 to 24 with sub-degree level or below education.

Trainees undergoing pre-employment training and who have successfully completed the workplace attachment training are eligible for a training allowance.
