Secretary for Labour & Welfare Matthew Cheung today started his Beijing visit by calling on Vice Minister of Civil Affairs Gu Chaoxi.

They discussed the ageing society and other social welfare matters, particularly the comprehensive plans for elderly care services in Hong Kong and the Mainland.

Mr Cheung briefed Mr Gu on the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's principle of "ageing in place as the core, institutional care as backup", the strategy of promoting active ageing and the elderly care initiatives implemented in recent years.

He then visited the China Employment Training Technical Instruction Center of the Ministry of Human Resources & Social Security, which provides guidance for employment and vocational training work nationally, and organises occupational skill testing.

He later met young Hong Kong people working in Beijing.
