Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man has expressed disappointment over the filibustering of the second reading of the Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Speaking to reporters today, Dr Ko said the quorum calls by some legislators leading to the abrupt adjournment of the Legislative Council meeting this evening has wasted a whole day of meeting time tomorrow.
He said while the bill might be seen by some members of the medical profession as harming their interests, it is much wanted by some other groups that represent doctors and patients.
Dr Ko said the reform of the Medical Council provided by the bill is the Government's response to people's aspirations.
He said the Government will not give up and will seek the support of legislators to pass the bill in the remaining sessions of the council.
