The Government today announced appointments to the High-level Steering Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance, effective June 1 to May 31, 2018.
The committee will tackle the threat of antimicrobial resistance to public health. It includes representatives from government departments, public and private hospitals, healthcare organisations, academia and professional bodies.
Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said antimicrobial resistance is a burning health issue globally, adding that action taken by the healthcare sector alone is not enough and concerted efforts from different stakeholders including the general public are imperative.
The committee will formulate strategies and implement action plans against antimicrobial resistance from different aspects under a "one health" framework.
